Charging EV using Diesel Power Generator

I read this article couple of days before and I started thinking is this really why we are moving towards EV at all?

I’m not denying that at present there is no infrastructure that can provide access to charge EVs in all the places. Even developed countries are struggling to install such infrastructure with short period. So for country like India it is really going to be a big deal. But the government is taking all necessary step to make it possible.

Let’s assume the hypothetical scenario where in next 10 years 50% of vehicles are EVs and the infrastructure (charging stations) are also in place. But to generate current to charge all those vehicles will be large scale than what we consume today when comparing against how much we produce and how we produce.

I mean in India the major source of producing current is by coal (thermal). Coal-burning energy plants are a major source of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to carbon monoxide and heavy metals like mercury, the use of coal releases sulfur dioxide, a harmful substance linked to acid rain.

So before we pushing automobile sector taking the lead towards green energy we should upgrade power generation infrastructure to use renewable energy sources. I agree that currently we’re using renewable energy sources to produce electricity for almost ~24% of what is produced over all (as per https://powermin.gov.in/en/content/power-sector-glance-all-india as on February 2021)

India have around 7500 km coastline around it. We should increase the use of such great resource as a renewable source. I found an useful article explaining how many different ways we can use ocean energy in the following link.
